The Association is here for former pupils and staff of the Folkestone School for Girls, including the former Technical, Grammar and County Schools, with the aim of keeping you in touch with each other and also with events at the School today. Our present membership is around 800 members, spread all over the world, with ages ranging from their teens to their nineties, if not older! Remember, as soon as you left the clutches of the School you became an ‘Old Girl’! From its origins in the early 1900’s the Schools went through several name changes over the years and then merged in 1983 to become The Folkestone School for Girls. At that time, the Technical School had no current Old Girls' Association (although there had been one until the 1950's) and all former pupils and staff were invited to join with the Grammar School Old Girls' Association to help encourage the present pupils with the merger and become "one". In the past we have been pupils of
And now we have members from the merged School
We issue an annual Newsletter and usually have at least one social occasion each year – for many years we had a formal dinner with speakers but for the last few years, we have had an informal and relaxed lunch in the spring. In the Autumn we have our Annual General Meeting at the school accompanied by tea and a chat. Sometimes we hold fundraising events like a Quiz Evening but we have experienced problems attracting good support by getting our messages out because we can afford to do only one posting a year. We hope the website will help. We support the School with donations to the Ewart Memorial Fund, which assists current pupils going on to further education, and to the School Prize Fund, and are kept up to date with what's happening at the School by our Joint Presidents, Caroline Stubbings (Head Teacher) and Tracy Luke (Executive Principal of both Folkestone School for Girls and The Marsh Academy) .
